I purchased my plans year and years ago, but I never was able to move forward.

Well, tonight I picked up a flux welder for $100US thanks to a sale at HF and the recent sale of our Adams Teail-a-bike tandem.
Now, I just need to learn how to use the damn thing.

You'll whoop louder when you stick two bits of metal together. I still find it satisfying after many years at it. The best bit of advice I can give is rotate the work to give you the easiest weld. Some things you have to weld in situ or at least tack in situ but for anything that can be moved about do so to give you the best shot at it. Generally that'll be nice and flat rather than vertical.
