I am gathering the materials for a KyotoCruiser. I think I will use 26" MTB wheels rather than the 20" at least for the drive wheels. I wouldn't mind having a 26" front wheel too but I don't know how that would affect the steering. Would the head tube angle have to change?
A couple other mods I am contemplating are rear suspension by installing a pivot in the the booms just behind the seats and adding a MTB shock (or shocks) from the booms to the seat backs, and using underseat steering instead of the overseat. I would do the steering to make it easier to add a fairing in the future.
The suspension may require a other mods. I'm thinking a drive side chain sprocket might be required.

I suspect Brad used 20" wheels because they are inherently stronger than 26". Two people can put a lot of stress on the wheels in a corner which bike wheels are not designed to take. 26" would be much more likely to fold than 20".
Rear suspension and USS should present no insurmountable issues.
