9 YEARS in the MAKING?!! The big reveal soon!!!

Pulled this out of my storage unit a couple of weeks ago.
This is what 9 years of rust on an unpainted frame looks like!
And it was never left outside!!!

Welded this one up 9 years ago, when I still had a welder & a shop. Feel like I need a tetanus shot just from looking at it.
Now, at LONG last, I've resumed work on it! What exactly is it? The big reveal is coming soon! Stay tuned...

Or, leave it and call it "patina"! :)
I think this one's way beyond the "patina" stage!

Now we don't want you off out there raiding and Marauding do we? ;)
Does that sound like something I'd do?

Since I still live in a stinkin' apartment, & have no place of my own to work, I took it to my aunt's, where I could at least
power my angle grinder, to wire-wheel the "patina" off. Working under her carport, I got it cleaned up, then hung & primered!

Looks just a tiny bit better, IMO. 😁

Back to the dreaded storage unit 😳 where it lives.
Of course, there's no power, but it's not necessary just for paint curing & assembly!

Nice, but it won't be an exact twin.
Naturally, I had to create some monstrous hybrid.

Weather & other things holding me up at present,
but the "big reveal" is close! 😁

How much time, in general, did it take you?
At this point, hard to say. Started it 9 years ago, & got it probably 90% finished in maybe a month or less,
but moved to another state, & lost my shop before I could wrap it all up. Still don't have a place to work,
but I've tried to finish it under a carport at my aunt's, since I live in a stinkin' apartment.

Right now, it's pretty much finished, but I'm waiting on this local SUPER SLOW print shop to make me a couple
of name stickers for the finishing touch before taking the final pics & the "big reveal". Normally, I make my
own water-slide decals, but I found they don't show up well on the darker colors of paint, so, for the first time
in many years, I turned back to a print shop. So far, I've been waiting for OVER A MONTH! Must be the slowest
darn print shop in the history of the PLANET!

It never even crossed my mind that this was possible. A quick google and I'm now enlightened. It's odd how sometimes we can see things and then think "I can make that better, differently or cheaper" and then we look at other things and those same thoughts never enter the brain. Or is that just me? Show me something mechanical and my brain immediately starts to analyse it. Show me something arty and the best my brain can do is decide if it's pretty or not.

Yeah, for years, on all of my rides, I've designed my own
with Photoshop, printed 'em out, & clear coated 'em.

Here's an example of one my earliest ones:

They work great on lighter colors, but on darker ones, not nearly so much, as you can see:

I can't compete with what a print shop can do on an adhesive-backed vinyl sticker, though:

Something like this is what I've been waiting OVER A MONTH for, from our "local yokels" print shop.
Beginning to look like I'm gonna have to give up on 'em... 😖

Thanx, Popshot! They don't rival print shop vinyl stickers, but
the satisfaction & cost effectiveness of DIY is hard to beat! 😊
