WildKat - Under Seat Steering Recumbent Cycle

Because the WildKat is a fusion between a lowracer and a touring recumbent, it becomes a bicycle for all occasions. It is great for those wanting a stable, easy to ride and comfortable bicycle for city commuting or long leisurely rides, but it also jumps into action when you want that all out fast and furious blast around the track or neighborhood. Another interesting feature of the WildKat is it's under seat steering configuration which lets you ride with your hands in a more natural position, rather than the usual "in front of the face" position demanded by the over seat steering recumbent bicycles. Under seat steering may look strange at first, but it is actually more stable in the long run, after all, you don't have that extremely long and somewhat flexible gooseneck to deal with, and there is certainly no "tiller effect" on the steering. Tiller effect forces the rider to reach to the side on tight corners as the handlebars move away from the bike - a problem that cannot easily be solved on long wheelbase recumbents with over the seat steering.

The WildKat can be easily built by anyone with a welder, a grinder, and a few scrap parts such as an old upright bicycle and some electrical conduit. The completed recumbent is just as light as many production models, certainly just as strong, and will give you a lifetime of faithful service. The cost of building the WildKat is up to the builder, and will be dependant on the quality of components such as brakes, wheels and transmission hardware used, but typically, the bike can be completed for under $100 if you already have a donor bicycle to use as parts for the frame. When completed and painted, the WildKat will look as good or better than a production "bent", and when you proudly proclaim that you build it in a few weekends, you may find the entire bicycle club lining up at your garage door with spare parts and a fistful of cash!

There are over 75 high resolution photos and multiple pages of clear and concise text detailing every single step of the building process, which includes alternate parts sources, and room for unique modifications based on your building style or available materials. There are no hard to find parts used in this project and there are no difficult angles and cuts to be made, in fact the bike almost builds itself once you get the first tube in place! The WildKat is a very comfortable and ultra smooth ride for those wanting to commute and tour, but it certainly is no slouch when it comes to speed and agility - check out the video below.

This is the perfect recumbent for those wanting a comfortable and nimble ride that does not look homemade. A machine of this quality could easily cost as much as a used car, but for the price of a pair of wheels, a few bits of tubing and paint, you will end up with a rock solid recumbent that will perform perfectly for a lifetime.
