Human powered trikes come in two varieties; two wheels at the back (Delta), and two wheels up front (Tadpole). The general opinion is that Tadpole trikes are made for speed and comfort while Delta trikes are great for load carrying, pulling trailers, and sending granny off to the shopping mall - not anymore! The radical DeltaWolf breaks all the rules that have held Delta trikes hostage for so many years! This trike is ultra low, very laid back, designed for comfort and speed, and gets away with full size 26 inch rear wheels due to the unique yet easy to make rear hub axels. The DeltaWolf is also designed to be easy to build using only a welder and an angle grinder, requiring only a single part to be machined (plans also show alternative to machined part). The rest of the trike is made using a few feet of square tubing and standard bicycle parts that can be purchased new or salvaged from scrap bicycles. Even the unique rear wheel hubs are made using nothing more than a hand drill, and a few washer shaped steel discs.

The DeltaWolf also features 18 or more speeds, a rear disc brake, helmet compatible head rest, and responsive handling characteristics normally reserved for racing go-carts. When you first climb into the pilot's seat, you will not believe that a trike can be so comfortable, yet once up to speed, you get the feeling you are sitting in the cockpit of a fighter plane, ready to whip around the next sharp corner with G-forces that would make most Delta trikes roll over and dump the rider. DeltaWolf achieves the ability to negotiate high speed turns without  lifting a wheel due to the fact that the rider is placed very low - even lower than some Tadpole racing trikes. Because the rear hub flanges are wider than normal and mounted directly to each axel, the DeltaWolf gets away with using full-sized 26 inch quality rims rather than the usual "kid-sized" 20 inch variety, which allows the gear ratio to match that of any full sized bicycle. 26 inch rear wheels also offer the builder a large array of quality tire and rim choices, let you keep up to or even outrun your riding partner, and just look plain cool!

There are over 160 high resolution photos and multiple pages of clear and concise text detailing every single step of the building process, which includes alternate parts sources, and room for unique modifications based on your building style or available materials. There are no hard to find parts used in this project and the only part that needs to be machined is a small threaded part that will allow a standard freehub to connect to one of the rear axels.  The total cost of building the DeltaWolf including the machined part will be approximately $200, and could actually be much less depending on the size of your junk pile. The frame is made from mild steel square tubing, and can be put together in a few evenings - not bad for a trike that looks as good as it rides.   Check out the video below to see how well the DeltaWolf behaves as it handles the tight corners and straight-aways.

This is the perfect trike for those who prefer the Delta configuration but do not want to look like they have a trike because they need one. Nothing about the DeltaWolf indicates that it was home built, and it certainly does not look like a trike your would lend your granny for shopping errands - this beast wants to race!
